14 September 2011, Visiting Scholars: Welcome to Ms Joanne Alexandra and Mr Tham Wai Kin who are pharmaceutical science students from Temasek Polytechnic in Singapore. Joanne and Wai Kin will complete research internships within the Ross Group.

 

26 May 2011, University Medal: Ms Kara Marcano was awarded a 2010 University Medal for outstanding academic results throughout the BPharm(Hons) program. Kara completed an honours research project in medicinal chemistry within the group. Congratulations Kara.

 

14 February 2011, Visiting Scholars: Welcome to Ms Christine Nguy and Ms Cynthia Govindjee who are pharmacy students from Paris Descartes University (University of Paris V) in France. Christine and Cynthia will complete research internships within the Ross Group.

 

20 December 2010, Merit Certificate: PhD candidate Venkatesan Moorthy Rao (Venky) attended the 62nd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress held in Manipal, India from 17-19 December 2010. The Congress attracted over 9000 delegates with 2800 papers selected for presentation. Venky’s oral presentation: “Effect of extrinsic elements on the fibrillisation of amyloid beta protein Abeta(1-28)” was awarded one of only 14 merit certificates for best papers. Congratulations Venky.

 

13 October 2010, Solander Travel Grant: Congratulations to PhD student Mrs Hemalatha Rajaram who was awarded a 2011 Solander Travel Grant. Hema will use the grant to visit the laboratory of Professor Sara Snogerup Linse at the Center for Molecular Protein Science at Lund University in Sweden.

 

5 April 2010 , Visiting Scholar: Welcome to Ms Christine Nguy who is a pharmacy student from Paris Descartes University (University of Paris V) in France. Christine will complete a three month research internship within the Ross Group.

 

1 March 2010, Welcome new research fellow: Welcome to Dr Hoang Lam Pham who is a 2010 Endeavour Research Fellow from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Vietnam. Lam will develop prodrugs with therapeutic potential in Alzheimer’s disease and investigate the influence of extrinsic factors on the aggregation of beta amyloid. Links:

11 December 2009, BPharm(Hons) Graduates: Congratulations to Mr Marco Giuseppin and Ms Annie Wong who graduated today with First Class Honours. Marco and Annie completed research projects with Dr Ben Ross as their principal advisor.

 

19 January 2009, New PhD student: Mrs Hemalatha Rajaram commenced her PhD today. Hema previously held the position of Reader at the Mahakal Institute of Pharmaceutical Studies.

 

30 November 2008, Brain Foundation Grant: Dr Ben Ross recently received the Rex Banks Estate Alzheimer’s Award from the Brain Foundation. The grant was presented to Dr Ross by the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, at the Brain Foundation annual research grant awards ceremony held at the Great Hall of the University of Sydney on 1 October 2008. 31 October 2008 , MPhil graduate: Ms Suciati was recently awarded a MPhil degree for research in the field of pharmacognosy. Suci's thesis was titled Secondary metabolites and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors from Fagraea spp. and Pandanus spp. Suci was enrolled in the the School of Molecular and Microbial Sciences and was advised by Prof Mary Garson and Dr Ben Ross. 16 July 2008 , PhD graduate: Congratulations to Dr Hoang Lam Pham who was awarded a PhD at the Faculty of Health Sciences graduation ceremony held today. Lam's thesis was titled Investigation into Immuno-Stimulating Complexes and Saponin Quil A. His advisors were Dr Nigel Davies, Dr Ben Ross, Dr Ross McGeary and Prof Nick Shaw. Photo>>

 

10 April 2008, New PhD student: Mr Manoj Kumar Palanivelu started his PhD today, funded by a prestigious Australian Government Endeavour Postgraduate Award. Manoj will focus on the design, synthesis and in vitro evaluation of inhibitors of amyloid aggregation.

 

25 January 2008, New PhD student: Welcome Mr Venkatesan Moorthy Rao who commenced his PhD today. Venky will develop prodrug strategies for the CNS delivery of inhibitors of beta-amyloid aggregation. Previously Venky was a Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy, International Medical University in KL, Malaysia.

 

18 October 2007, Ramaciotti Foundation Grant: A grant from the Clive and Vera Ramaciotti Foundations will support our research into Novel Anti-Amyloidogenic Therapies for Alzheimer's Disease.

 

3 October 2007, Honours and PhD applicants: Students who are considering Honours or PhD projects for 2008 should meet with Dr Ross to discuss their options.

23 July 2007, New Graduate Students: PhD students Mr Hoang Lam Pham and Ms Gosia Skoczylas joined the Ross Group. Lam and Gosia are cosupervised by Dr Nigel Davies. Welcome Lam and Gosia!

10 Jan 2007, PhD Scholarship: The School of Pharmacy has a PhD Scholarship available for a

8 Jan 2007, New Funding: The Ross Group was successful in gaining funding from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (Queensland Branch; Queensland Pharmacy Research Trust).  These funds will support our project: New Classes of Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor: Natural Product Treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease.

2 April 2013: Welcome Mr Suresh Veliyath (PhD candidate). Suresh has a masters degree in pharmaceutical chemistry from Rajiv Gandhi University, Bangalore. He worked as a project assistant at the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore and as a faculty member at MIPS Hyderabad, before joining the Ross Group. Suresh's PhD project is focused on AD drug discovery.

 

6 February 2013: Welcome Mr Girdhar Singh Deora (PhD candidate). Giri completed a MPharm from Rajiv Gandhi Technological University, Bhopal in 2009. Prior to joining the Ross Group, Giri worked as a research associate at Rajiv Gandhi Technological University (2010-11) and at Dr Reddy's Institute of Life Sciences, Hyderabad (2011-13). Giri's PhD project is in the field of AD drug discovery.

 

10 January 2013: Welcome Mr Edward Lee (PhD candidate). Eddy completed a BPharm (2010) and postgraduate honours (2012) degrees at UQ and he was awarded an APA scholarship for his PhD project to develop anti-viral nanoparticles.

 

1 November 2012: Welcome Mr Satish Dighe (PhD candidate). Satish was awarded an MPharm in 2009 from Pune University, and worked as a research chemist at Zydus-Cadila Healthcare Limited (2009-11; Ahmedabad) and as a research assistant at the Birla Institute of Techology and Science (2011-12; Pilani), before joining the Ross Group. The topic of Satish's PhD project is AD drug discovery.

 

3 July 2012: Welcome Mr Srinivas Kantham (PhD candidate) who is funded by a prestigious Prime Minister's Australia Asia Incoming Postgraduate Award. For his PhD Srinivas is developing polyphenols as disease-modifying drugs for AD. Previously he worked as a research assistant at the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) Hyderabad.
